American Culture

If a cultural anthropologist were to come to Fremd I think they would be able to see a somewhat realistic representation of American culture. Many kids at Fremd High School are materialistic and put a lot of value behind the clothes they wear or purses they have. Also, it shows how much we as a society depend on technology. Everywhere you go people are on their phones or listening to their ipods. Technology dictates the way we live in both good and bad ways. Also, you would be able to see that there are cliques and social classes among the students which ,although not as exagerrated, still exists in America.

I agree with this post. Our culture at fremd is very technology oriented. It's funny to walk into a class and see kids completely zoned out in their music. Along with technology, I also agree with the many cliques at school. I might take that to reflect social class and if someone has a certain things, it means they have "more" or at least appears to. Simply put, I don't think Fremd is a good representative of our nation's culture as a whole.

I agree with you. I think that technology is very important to Fremd kids. I don't know if everyone saw this video in class, but I saw something at Fremd that reminded me of it. A girl was trying to post a picture on facebook. Not even 3 seconds passed, and she yelled out "my phone sucks!" I have to admit I do that myself sometimes, but it made me think how we don't appreciate what we already have as much as we should.

I agree with you guys on how technology is important to Fremd kids. I feel that and fashion are the two good similarities Fremd has with the American culture.

this is compleatly true. if were not on our newest Iphone 4s then were obsessing overclothes or other technology. clearly newest is best in our culture. fremd is also seperated much like clicks but far less severe.

I think you're right. We've grown too attached to our visual representations. Same thing with the technology aspect. Relying so much on it has partially diminished our social capabilities. And I think cliques still exist in America to the extent of, if not greater than those in high school. We just refer to them as parties, organizations, neighborhoods, etc.
