Poverty
I think that they should start a job search for something accessible for both of them. This still may be difficult because it is very hard to find a job right now and both of them have some type of disability holding them back. The couple has suffered some hardships but hopefully with some hard work they will bounce back.

I think you mis-used the term 'couple', but I get what you're saying. I think with some luck and a lot of hard work they will begin to go somewhere in their lives.
